Description
The meeting is scheduled at the appointed time near the Puerta de la Independencia, opposite the Puerta de Alcalá, one of the historic accesses to El Retiro. From here, our guided visit to explore the park will begin. The first stop will be the famous Retiro Lake, one of the most iconic and popular places in Madrid. In front of the monument to Alfonso XII, we will discover the origins of this large artificial basin and the role that King Felipe IV played in its construction. We will then continue through tree-lined avenues and green areas, accompanied by stories, interesting facts, and anecdotes related to the long history of Retiro, until we reach two of its most characteristic buildings: the Velázquez Palace and the striking Crystal Palace, originally conceived as a winter garden and now one of the park's most recognizable images. The last portion of the visit will be dedicated to the Parterre, an area with a geometric design that is very different from the rest of the Retiro. We will observe the orderly arrangement of the hedges, the structure of the paths, and the particular shapes of the cypresses, elements that allow us to understand another way of conceiving and designing green spaces. After about 90 minutes, the tour will end near the Parterre. From here, you will be free to continue the walk and return at your leisure to the places that have piqued your curiosity the most.Includes
