Leave Madrid behind and travel through the beautiful landscapes of Castilla towards the renowned Ribera del Duero wine region, one of Spain’s most celebrated areas for red wine production. During the journey, your local guide will introduce you to the history, traditions and wine culture of Castilla, explaining how the region’s altitude, climate and soils have shaped its winemaking heritage over the centuries. Your first winery offers a particularly engaging introduction to the world of wine. Here, the experience focuses on how to taste wine properly, recognize aromas and flavors, and understand the basic principles of wine appreciation. It is an ideal way to discover how different elements such as grape variety, aging, oak and terroir influence what you perceive in the glass. Later, continue towards Pesquera del Duero, in the heart of Ribera del Duero, where Tempranillo is the main grape variety. The second winery is usually a smaller, family-run winery, offering a more intimate and traditional experience. Depending on availability, the visit may include a historic underground wine cave located in a traditional “cotarro”, one of the most distinctive and unique features of the region’s wine culture. These underground cellars, carved into the hillside, have been used for generations to store and age wine under naturally stable temperature conditions. Visiting one of them offers a completely different perspective on Ribera del Duero and its deep connection with local history and tradition. Your guide will accompany you throughout the day, helping with the itinerary, winery coordination and local insights, while leaving you free to choose the tastings and experiences that interest you most. There will also be time to enjoy lunch in the region and discover traditional Castilian cuisine before returning comfortably to Madrid. Please note: winery entrance fees, wine tastings, food and drinks are not included in the tour price and must be paid directly at each winery or restaurant. The tour includes the local guide, transportation, itinerary planning, winery pre-reservations and the overall Ribera del Duero experience.
