Description
Leave Madrid at 9:30 am and you will be standing under Segovia's Roman aqueduct about an hour later - no coach, no crowd, just your own small group and your guide in a comfortable hybrid car.
You start at the aqueduct itself: rows of granite arches stacked without a drop of mortar, still carrying the skyline of the city almost two thousand years after the Romans built them. From there you walk up into the old town, past the Plaza Mayor and the late-Gothic cathedral they call the lady of cathedrals, and through the quiet lanes of the old Jewish quarter.
The walk ends at the Alcazar, the castle on the rock that looks like it was drawn for a fairy tale. Your entry ticket is included, so you go inside to see the throne room, the armoury and the painted ceilings. Afterwards there is a stop at the viewpoint below the walls, where the whole castle rises above the meeting of two rivers - the photograph everyone comes to Segovia for.
In between there is time for a coffee or a long lunch. Segovia is famous for cochinillo asado, suckling pig roasted in a wood-fired oven and carved with the edge of a plate. Lunch is not included, but tell us when you book and we will help you get a table at one of the classic places.
The day runs six to seven hours door to door. We collect you at your hotel or apartment in Madrid and bring you back there afterwards. Fuel, tolls, parking and the Alcazar ticket are all covered by the price, and because the group is only yours, the pace is yours too - tell us what interests you most and we adjust the day around it.

- Pickup is at 9:30 am from your hotel or apartment in central Madrid - please confirm the exact address when you book. This is a private tour for up to 3 people in a Toyota Yaris hybrid. A child seat is available free of charge: tell us the child's age and weight when booking. Segovia's old town is hilly and cobbled, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Meals and drinks are not included: if you would like to try the local cochinillo, tell us when you book and we will help you get a table. The Alcazar ticket covers the palace; the tower and Segovia Cathedral are not included.
