It is a night in one of the darkest skies in Spain. 130 km from Madrid, in the Montes de Toledo, Cork Valley sits inside the Cabañeros Starlight Tourist Destination, certified by the Starlight Foundation in 2023. Cork Valley itself appears in the Starlight Foundation's official list of accredited sites (2025) as an Alojamiento Rural Singular, a distinction also awarded by the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha. The estate is 100% solar powered, with minimal outdoor lighting, so the sky above your terrace stays as dark as the certification promises. YOUR NIGHT You arrive at 17:00 and settle into a designer Mirror House set well apart from the others on a 70-hectare private estate of centuries-old cork oaks. Swim in the panoramic saltwater infinity pool, warm up in your private Nordic hot tub (selected accommodations) and wait for the light to go. Then you switch everything off. From your own terrace, with no equipment at all, the Milky Way appears to the naked eye on a clear, moonless night. Lie down, give your eyes twenty minutes and let the sky fill in. We share a simple month-by-month guide to what is overhead: the Milky Way at its widest from May to August, the Geminids in December, the longest nights from September to February. Wake up surrounded by unspoiled nature, where wild deer, birds of prey and our free-roaming horses are part of the landscape, and enjoy the estate's private trails before check-out at 13:00. Stargazing is a self-guided experience from your private terrace: no telescope or astronomy guide is provided. Visibility depends on the weather and the moon phase; the Milky Way is clearest on moonless nights, especially from May to August. Cork Valley is 130 km from Madrid; you will need your own vehicle to reach the estate. Pet-friendly accommodation is available on selected stays (supplement applies).
