CORK VALLEY — CABAÑEROS NATIONAL PARK, THE SPANISH SERENGETI Guided 4x4 Safari + Mirror House + Private Terrace This is not a hotel reservation. It is two days inside one of the wildest landscapes in Spain. THE 4x4 SAFARI Cabañeros National Park protects the best-preserved Mediterranean forest and raña in the Iberian Peninsula: a vast plain dotted with centuries-old holm oaks and cork oaks, ringed by quartzite sierras and home to red deer, roe deer, wild boar and one of Europe's largest colonies of black vultures. Most of it is closed to private vehicles. The only way in is the guided 4x4 route run by the park's official concessionaire, and we book it for you. For about 3 hours you travel some 30 km through restricted-access areas of the park with a specialist guide: the raña, the surrounding sierras, viewpoints and forest tracks, with interpretive stops and a short walk of about 1 km. Deer are the stars, and in September and October you may hear the roar of the rut (la berrea) echoing across the plain. Departures run in the morning and afternoon depending on the season; we confirm your slot after booking. YOUR MIRROR HOUSE 130 km from Madrid, on the edge of the park, Cork Valley is a 70-hectare private estate of ancient cork oaks. You arrive at 17:00 and settle into a designer Mirror House set well apart from the others, with your own terrace and, in selected accommodations, a private Nordic hot tub. Swim in the panoramic saltwater infinity pool, walk the estate's private trails where wild deer, birds of prey and our free-roaming horses are part of the landscape, and sleep inside the Cabañeros Starlight Tourist Destination, one of the darkest skies in Spain. The 4x4 route is operated by the National Park's official concessionaire; departures run in the morning and afternoon depending on the season and we confirm your slot after booking. It starts at the park's visitor centre, reached by your own car. The route combines about 30 km by 4x4 with a short walk of about 1 km: wear comfortable footwear. Pets cannot join the 4x4 route, although pet-friendly accommodation is available on selected stays (supplement applies). Cork Valley is 130 km from Madrid; you will need your own vehicle.
