Description

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum opened on October 8, 1992, to to house one of the best and most prestigious private collections in the world. This collection, which was owned by the Thyssen-Bornemisza family, was bought by the Spanish State in July 1993 and covers a period from the late 13th century to the 1980s. We'll be checking out the Permanent Collection, which is spread across three floors. The suggested route kicks off on the second floor with medieval paintings. The visit kicks off with medieval Italians and moves on to Renaissance and Baroque art. The first rooms on the first floor showcase the Dutch school, featuring scenes of everyday life, landscapes, and still lifes. Modern Painting kicks off in room 29 with two galleries dedicated to 19th-century American art, followed by Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and German Expressionism. The ground floor is all about the 20th century, with some amazing pieces from Cubism, abstraction, and more. Surrealism, pop art, or figuration in post-war Europe. It's the only museum in Madrid with such a long timeline. Important: This museum rotates its works a lot, so the masterpieces you want to see might not be in the permanent collection because they're on loan to other galleries or being restored. The Carmen Thyssen Collection isn't included in the explanations, but you can check it out on your own. Just a heads up, it might be closed on some days.
