Description

Experience an unforgettable day in Madrid with this excursion from Barcelona aboard the high-speed train. After a fast and comfortable ride, you'll arrive in the Spanish capital ready to explore its most emblematic sites on a circular route that combines history, architecture and urban life, moving like a true local: by metro. Arriving at Atocha station, we will begin our tour using the metro network to travel to the Royal Palace, the largest in Western Europe. This imposing eighteenth-century building, overlooking the Sabatini Gardens and the Campo del Moro, was the official residence of the kings of Spain and today represents one of the greatest exponents of royal power. Just opposite stands the Almudena Cathedral, whose eclectic architecture is a reflection of the long construction process that led to its completion only in 1993. We will continue to the heart of Hapsburg Madrid, where you will visit the Plaza de la Villa, the Casa de Cisneros and the Torre de los Lujanes, witnesses of the evolution of the city since its medieval origins. The history of the monarchy, the nobility and the origins of Madrid's civil power are revealed in every corner of this neighborhood. At noon we will break for lunch at the Mercado de San Miguel. This gastronomic temple is the ideal place to enjoy authentic Spanish cuisine: tapas, Iberian products, fresh seafood and a wide variety of flavors in a lively and modern setting. With recharged energy, we will walk to the Plaza Mayor, one of the most famous squares in Spain, surrounded by arcaded buildings and steeped in history. From there, we will walk down Calle Mayor until we reach the famous Puerta del Sol, the nerve center of the city and symbolic center of the country, where the emblematic Kilometer Zero is located. The route continues with a stop at the iconic Puerta de Alcalá, one of the great symbols of Madrid. This majestic neoclassical gate, built in the 18th century by order of Charles III, was the first of its kind erected in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire, even before the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Its imposing presence next to the Retiro Park and the Plaza de la Independencia makes it an essential postcard of the city. From there, we will head towards the vibrant Gran Vía, flanked by buildings such as the Telefónica Building or the Metrópolis, the epicenter of Madrid's culture and entertainment. In this urban artery you will feel the modern pulse of the city and its unmistakable dynamism. We will culminate our route in the Plaza de Cibeles, admiring the Palacio de Comunicaciones, today the seat of the City Hall, and other symbols that give shape to the most representative postcard of Madrid. Then, we will travel again by subway to Atocha station to take the high-speed train back to Barcelona, closing a full day of history, art and life in Madrid.
