Description
This full day tour from Madrid takes you to see 2 icons of Spanish history, the “City of 3 Cultures” at Toledo, and the royal town of Escorial. You can take just 1 part if you wish; the transfer returns to Madrid at midday. Or combine the 2 and enjoy an inclusive lunch, either in Madrid or at Toledo. In the morning you will visit El Escorial. Start at The Monastery, built under the reign of the powerful King Philip II. It has been used as a royal residence, a monastery, and a pantheon to the royal family, and has since become a symbol of the great power of the Spanish Empire. In the afternoon you will be able to explore the beautiful city of Toledo, home to many historic Spanish monuments. Walk past old Gothic and Renaissance buildings and along charming narrow streets and alleys, which testify to its former days of glory. Considered a national monument, Toledo has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage City and is often referred to as the “City of 3 Cultures,” because - for a long time - Christians, Muslims and Jews lived peacefully within its walls. Watch a short movie about the history of Toledo and visit a characteristic Damasquino factory. Known for its beautifully decorative swords and daggers, the city continues to produce inlaid jewelry and decorative handicrafts that you can safely purchase to take home.Includes
