Visit one of the many Wonders of the World! An imposing 16th-century edifice, The Royal Monastery of El Escorial owes most of its design to its main architect, Juan Herrera. Many of the best artisans of that period contributed to its construction. The monastery also houses the Mausoleum of the Spanish Monarchs. The Monastery of El Escorial was built under the reign of powerful King Philip II. Designed as a residence of kings, a monastery, and a pantheon to the royal family, it has since become a symbol of the great power of the Spanish empire during that time. Your visit will include tours of the monastery, the Hall of Battles, the Museum of Architecture, the Cloister of the Four Evangelists, the Palace of Philip II, the Pantheon of the Kings and the Basilica. The Valley of the Fallen is a monument built as a memorial of those who died during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Located in a beautiful valley in the Mountains of Guadarrama, the impressive work has a colossal cross over 150 mts. high, and the Basilic and Crypt excavated in the hard rock under the mountain. This tours includes the entrance to the Valley and the visit inside the Basilic. Duration of this tour aprox. 5 hours. Reservations required. If by any chance the Basilic is not open to public, we shall visit the important Library of the Escorial
