Description

Francisco de Goya is considered to be the artist who best represents the passing between classical art into the avant-garde art. His personal life is totally connected with his art creation, and he is a wonderful way to learn about society, history, and politics. The Prado Museum contains over 1200 pieces created by Goya: canvases, engravings, drawings, notebooks, and letters. That's why it is the best place in the world to get to know this artist in depth. In addition to meet kings and other historical characters, this tour is a fascinating way to learn about art and techniques. You will understand the artistic process in a fun, entertaining way. In this comprehensive tour, you will explore 58 years of Goya's artistic creation: from his early works in Italy in the 18th century, his designs for the Royal Factory of Tapestries and his works for the Spanish crown as a royal painter in Madrid, to his latest depictions of war, hunger and hopelessness in the early decades of the 19th century. You will start your itinerary in the tapestries rooms, where you will get a glimpse at the Spanish society of the 1700s through the particular lense of Goya: glamorous dressed couples, bucolic sceneries, hunting scenes, forced marriage and child labour. What a time to be alive! Then, you will travel to the Madrilenian court of Charles IV, a very entertaining moment of the history: full of affairs, dramas, betrayals, and deceit. The political scene was fascinating, and you will meet its protagonists with your guide. You will also unveil the mystery behind one of the most famous nudes in the history of art: the famous Naked Maja (and her twin, the Dressed Maja). Afterward, it will be time for war, sadness and intensity, as you will get to Goya's depictions of the Spanish War of Independence against Napoleon, with the emotional Executions of the 3rd of May in Madrid. You will finish your itinerary with the Black Paintings: the obscure and meaningful murals that Goya painted in the walls of his house when he was 73 years old.
